I spent a year with a 100% Apple setup

In 2021, Apple has sufficiently diversified its catalog so that we can fully equip ourselves with computer and entertainment equipment bearing the Apple logo. While the iPhone and AirPods are unquestionably the devices most popular with the general public, I wanted to live the 100% Apple experience for a year.

The company and its fans praise the quality of the ecosystem, the interconnection between devices, the integration of services, etc. I used to not put all my eggs in one basket, but this year I took the plunge. And the experience was worth the detour.

The experience summarized in video

Apple is expensive

Before getting to the heart of the matter, let’s take a look at the material selected for my experience. So as not to attribute any problem to lower-end equipment, I chose all the brand’s latest products. My job as a tech journalist allows me to do this at a lower cost since the brand lends us its products for more or less long periods of time, enough to provide feedback.

At the end of 2020, I therefore equipped myself with the iPhone 13 Pro, which supplemented the equipment I already had, namely:

  • a Macbook Pro 16” with a muscular technical sheet (purchase price at its exit higher than 3500 euros) replaced by a MacBook Pro 14” with M1 Pro chip. Budget: around 3000 euros
  • a 12.9” 2nd generation iPad Pro with SmartCover and 2nd generation Apple Pencil. Budget for a new iPad Pro M1 with these accessories: around 1500 euros
  • an iPhone 12 Pro 256 GB replaced in September 2021 by the iPhone 13 Pro 256 GB. Budget: 1160 euros
  • an iPad mini 6 released at the end of 2021 with a 2nd generation Apple Pencil. Budget (without Apple Pencil): 560 euros
  • an Apple Watch Series 6 replaced by a Series 7 at the end of 2021 (GPS+Celular). Budget: 530 euros
  • des AirPods Pro. Budget : 280 euros
  • un AirPods Max. Budget : 630 euros
  • an Apple TV 4K 32 GB. Budget: 200 euros
  • 2 HomePod mini. Budget : 200 euros
  • a family subscription to Apple One , therefore including Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Fitness (since the end of 2021), Apple Arcade and storage on iCloud. Budget: 30 euros / month for one year or 360 euros.
